A Man and His Helix

Years after the discovery, Crick continued to examine the precise role of DNA in genetics. He continued theorizing and performing tests, and took part in varying degrees with the discovery of RNA and that genetic code is in fact a degenerate triple code. Both were important discoveries.

Around 1976, Crick moved away from biology to a new position in La Jolla, California in the field of neuroscience, a career he would follow until his death. For a man who had started out in physics, then moved to chemistry, it was not at all unusual for Crick to start once again in a new field of science. To Crick, the idea of consciousness was completely amazing, and he was stunned how little people really knew about the brain and it’s functions. Just like he had with the DNA community, Crick set out to create stronger ties between fellow researchers in the field of neuroscience to aid in discovery.
